Latest on Newton Casino Plans

The 7093 King George Blvd. property has had a long and troubled history. In 2009, Boardwalk Gaming promised a $25-million investment that would see a revitalized mall and community policing station in exchange for a lucrative zoning change that would allow slot machines at Newton Square  Bingo Country. The rezoning was in violation of Surrey’s existing gaming policy, but it passed on a five-to-four vote. Despite questionable politics,Newton Casino Plans go ahead

  1. I live a block away from the bingo hall, and have since 1982. I have grown up in newton and have seen the effects of "progress". Once a thriving family oriented neighborhood with a few minor issues, it has "progressed" into complete disrepair. Blatant drug use and dealing at all hours and in plain sight. Prostitutes on just about every street. I don't really have to continue, if you live here, you know what I'm talking about. This casino would be the straw that finally breaks our community's back. So many of us are living at or below the poverty line anyways. I am glad to see that i am not alone in my resolve to improve our hometown. Anything I can do to help.
